mice nest in soil

Hi, I'm new to gardening and loving growing edible crops, but after I uncovered a black plastic sheet off my raised bed last week, I discovered a mouse nest. I've spent ages searching the internet and cant find a definitive answer as to whether my soil is safe to plant edibles or not. please help!

    Well not a definitive answer but I’d imagine most gardens have mice I’m sure your soil will be fine by the time you prepare the soil and sow or plant.

    Your soil is perfectly safe to plant anything in. If you are a farmer and spread fresh manure on your field you only need to wait 3 months before harvest. A couple of mice are not going to be worse than a few thousand pigs.

    I agree … absolutely nothing to worry about.  
    There are probably quite a few small animals … wood mice, field mice, voles, shrews etc living in your garden … they’re happily doing what they do to help the world go around …  you’ve just found evidence of one or maybe two of them.

    I wouldn't worry either. I have a regular supply of mice here, and they can get into the smallest spaces, so they're everywhere around plants - including edibles, whether in the greenhouse or outside.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
