    Could the dead flower stems at the back be a Campanula of some sort?  I agree with the foxglove.

    Thanks for the foxglove suggestions. 
    I think it's a pretty pinkish one called Luminous or something like that.

    Leaf of Alkanet and Digitalis can be confusing before they flower.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    That will be the one Alf,  has a smaller flower spike than the others. 
    As I said before, if you plant it in the ground it will bloom beautifully for you this year. It will struggle in that little pot.

    @Lyn - thanks for mentioning that and I will find it a home. Fortunately foxgloves are one of the few things our abundance of rabbits seem to leave alone.
