Lawn maintenance - some kind of invasive grass?

I'd be grateful for advice on how best to tackle what looks like a patch of some kind of invasive grass in our lawn (based in the south of Scotland).

I attach a photo - it is hard to make out, but there is a patch in the middle of the picture of differently textured grass which is finer and more of a silvery green than the rest of our lawn.  There are similar (much bigger) patches in our neighbour's garden, which seem to have spread quite substantially across their lawn.

It would be really helpful to identify what this might be, whether it is a problem/is likely to keep spreading and what steps I should be taking - can I control this or do I need to remove this section and re-turf to stop it spreading, for example?

Wondered if it could be a fairy ring?

@Jane453 If it is a fairy ring there is very little you can do and I would suggest you try and live with it as something that naturally occurs. When the lawn is dry you may find an uneven circle where the grass does not grow.
