Bamboo flowering

This has appeared on my bamboo. I had one previously like this but it was growing out of the dirt so I assumed it was another plant and removed it.

Is this how the flowering starts?

Welcome. Which country are you in? A bamboo with often die after flowering.

If I remove it can I save the plant?

Hi - are you absolutely sure it is bamboo? The leaves and flower looks more like a palm to me. For instance:

In any case, I wouldn't worry about it.

Agree with @Pianoplayer - it doesn't resemble bamboo and as it is in Canada, more likely to be Palm being kept as an indoor plant.
Perhaps the OP could confirm where it is kept ?
