Cypress Query

Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone can please help. We have a Cypress and absolutely love it, we have noticed that it has got hundreds of tiny pine cone shaped things on it, they come off very easily. I am not sure what they are, the tree is about 3 years old and this is the first time we have noticed it.

I am wondering if it’s just loads of tiny seeds or something? I have seen the nut type things they get and these cones are a lot smaller and softer and a different shape.

Thanks in advance! :)

    It’s flowering.

I think I’m right in saying that cypress trees produce male and female flowers on the same tree.

The fertilised female cones will produce seeds.

Yes - perfectly normal. Conifers of all types will be producing seed around now.  :)

My car is currently being covered in pollen from the adjacent conifer in my garden. That can be a big problem if you're allergic, so just be aware of that too   :)
