Aerating and covering holes / seeding afterwards guidance needed

  • Thanks Jenny.  Would you or anybody else reccomend the lawn aerators that roll?  It seems like quite an easy way to aerate the lawn but not sure if they are effective. I have read mixed reviews for those and a lot of people complaining that the nuts fall apart.

I can't imagine that the ones that look like a roller with nails sticking out would do more than prick the surface, and the same for the ones that you wear on your feet, but I've never tried either. If you have a large area to do you can hire a machine but I've not done that either.

I think those shoes @JennyJdescribes are a gimmick. They wouldn't get deep enough to do any good at all, and more than my crampons would.  :)
Spikes on anything would need to be deep enough for them to do much good. If there's a machine available, that's probably easier on the body, if not the pocket  ;)

  • Thanks Fairygirl.  Definitely looks like the shoes and anything like that are a gimmick.  I will stick to making holes with a fork where I feel it is needed. Better than not doing it all I guess.

Thank you all for your help.

I think  that's probably all you can do. Then follow the other advice on the thread re seeding, and watering etc.
