Bare Root Fruit Tree

Greetings
I have just received the Bare Root Fruit tree I ordered a week or so ago. I am unable to plant for a couple of days due to work commitments . I have stood it in a Bucket of water upon opening the box. But should I keep it in the water until I can plant it or Remove it from the water after a few hours ?

A soak overnight is good, then maybe remove from the bucket and wrap the roots in plastic for a day or two and keep in the shade.

If you can stick it in the ground temporarily or in a pot with compost, that would be ideal, preferably out of warm sunshine.

They generally say to heel them in until you can properly plant them, which is a posh way of saying dig a temporary hole and plonk them in so the roots don't dry out. Soaking in water is good but prolonged soaking will cause problems, they need to stay moist but have the water drain away.
