What was really sad, was a few years ago the council had sown loads of poppies in the verges, so I went out one night to snaffle some seed heads, and they'd cut every.. single.. border for miles. 😢
What the hell is wrong with these people? The long borders were 100% not in anyone's way. I was mortified.

    Timing is a big issue.

Another little update, looks like some cosmos is coming up too.

Wow, @RoddersUK - that it gorgeous! That's what we all dream of when we envison a wildflower patch! I've sort of given up on mine as such - I'm going to plant some perennials like lavender (I do have cosmos) which will attract bees/butterflies etc.

I'm certainly surprised myself how well it's done. Super happy with it!

Going to expand it next year, so hopefully I can replicate!

    Will update again next month.

Someone's from work, not a gardener at all. He's done very well!!! Putting us to shame lol.

  • Are the yellow flowers calendula?

No idea, it's someone's I know and he knows nothing about flowers lol. So he wouldn't know. Unless he kept the packet of course

I think the yellow flowers are probably corn marigold (Glebionis segetum) which is apparently a type of chrysanthemum. The orange ones look more like calendula to me.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    Poppies have such impact.
