Plant ID

Can anyone tell me what this is?  The photo was taken today.  The shrub/tree (?) is about 10ft high and 6ft wide.  About 4 or 5 leaves have appeared near these 'bud' things but apart from that the branches are completely bare at the moment. The buds are sort of furry, not like Viburnum burkwoodii or anything. Many thanks

    Could it be Sorbus Aria?

Mmm, I'm not sure GardenerSuze, do you think that would be completely leafless as the buds appear?
  • It reminds me of the Wayfaring tree I have planted not that long ago but it did not get to flower properly for me last year as it is still young so not sure if that is the correct ID.

    Happy gardening!

    One of the Viburnum sp.
Time will tell as those flower buds open.

Sorbus aria leaves are alternate so can be ruled out.

That's what I was thinking silversurfer, I'll wait for the flowers to open and then take more photos.  The buds match your last photo but this plant only had two opposite leaves on a few of the buds.  Perhaps more leaves will appear like your last photo....

Sorry..... all your pics above show twigs that are opposite to each other. eg Viburnum.
From the young leaf and buds  recognize it as a Viburnum sp.

It is not Sorbus aria as my pics above..as leaves are alternate...which rules it out.
