Pollen beetles

Little pollen beetles in the garden are really ruining the enjoyment of my new garden. I am sort of Rurel backing onto a field a big open garden (which needs a lot doing to it) and I have all these little flies just hovering round in big groups so I can’t really enjoy sitting out there.

Is there any to get rid of them

Hello Sophie, must admit l am a bit confused. Are they beetles or flies ? Can you describe them or get a photo?

Are you sure they are pollen beetles? Pollen beetles are particularly attracted to yellow flowers or anything yellow in fact. Whatever they are you are never going to get rid of them in a big open garden backing onto a field. If the field has rapeseed growing as a crop there will be millions of them in there.

The description doesn't sound like Pollen Beetles.
Are they actually doing any harm? We should embrace our wildlife, we're losing it fast. They will be food for birds

    In the sticks near Peterborough

Sounds more like flies rather than pollen beetles. If there's cattle nearby, there will be flies  :)

That's one of the joys of being rural... ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

When they’ve landed for me too actually see them they have black shells and little wings. Tiny little things.

Mind you when I’m walking through swarms of them on a walk just now they are different I can’t take a picture of them as too difficult. They are like little flies
