Double Primrose

Jules1MJules1M Posts: 12
Hi, I've just bought some beautiful bright pink double primroses, any suggestions on what I can plant with them to make a beautiful spring outdoor pot? Maybe something white for contrast or something that trails? Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Hi @Jules1M - you could try a Carex - one of the green/cream variegated varieties. Then pick something cream flowered, perhaps with a bit of height to give you a good contrast. I'd have to have a think about that, although if you can find any potted daffs in a paler colour, you could slot them in. Worth thinking about something like that for next year.

It's always better to find a plant which likes the same conditions as your primroses too. The Carex would be fine in that regard.  :)
What size is your pot , approximately? Width /height.

There are tall [candelabra] primroses in white. That could be an option. I have a white Pulsatilla - that could be worth looking for. Not as tall as the candelabra primrose, but a nice contrast in foliage and flower to the primrose you have.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Thank you, I'll certainly Google your suggestions! The pot is about knee high and approx 30cm wide.

Not a huge amount of room width wise, but you should be able to get something in there no problem  :)
Those plants would all be able to stay permanently in the pot - just with the addition of some new soil/compost each year, and maybe a bit of food, although most of them don't need huge amounts of extra nourishment. It can be useful as bulbs die down, so if you got any daffs, they would benefit from it.
Eventually they would get a bit big, abut you'd be able to divide clumps of most of them - and that would give you another potful  :)
