preparation of ground

Hi, we have some woodlands behind our garden and we have gained some extra land just before the woodland, however, the ground is covered in brambles, weeds etc (see attached). i want to prepare the ground so that it is able to be grass, but i am not sure where to start in order to prepare it. any advice please? (not sure why the picture attached upside down)
