I've just checked up on this with a friend who works in a local garden centre.  Narcissi are positively heliotropic - they follow the sun, but not all day, they stop when they've reached optimum exposure.  Those that don't get any sun due to shading by other plants or are in the the shadow of a wall etc do not display this characteristic.  I've had a look at the daffodils in my garden this morning and they are all differentially complying with this!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

@Plantminded No I haven't noticed them following the sun they always seem to be in the same angle but not "turning" as such,  whilst the "daffs" flowers face away.
The flowers in the garden aren't in the shade and the ones in the orchard are in full sun.
    Very interesting though.
    Thanks to all.
