Camellia pruning

We have a quite elderly but still glorious red camellia .....but when should I prune it?
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

After flowering is the usual time. It gives them a chance to recover, before hopefully producing new buds in late summer, although harder pruning will mean a longer time before that happens.
You can also do it in stages if you prefer. Take around a third of the branches back to where you'd like them, then do the other two thirds over the following two years. That way, you'll still get flowers over the period of time   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thankyou for your help - I'll wait until the last few flowers fall off, and go for it.
