What Clematis is this? And should I see signs of life yet?

Hi Gardeners
I have had this clematis for a number of years, it normally flowers in April and I would have thought I would see new life by now! When I clip the new growth from last year ie the thinnest shoots, these are dead wood and could be trimmed back, but when I check the old growth this is very much alive.  Other clematis in my garden are all now in the green, so hence the post!
Questions are:
What Clematis is this?
I have never hard pruned it, should I be?
If others have this in their garden, have you seen signs of life yet?
For info I am East Surrey, the UK

    One of the montanas.
They don't normally need pruning, except when they get out of hand, which they can do. The flowers often appear any foliage. I'd have thought it's a bit early to see signs of that anyway. The new growth clipped off would have carried flowers, but they flower on the old wood too.
Have you done anything different in the area around it? Has it been waterlogged at all?
    The need good drainage.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

@Fairygirl thank you this part of the garden doesn’t get waterlogged, I’ll wait a little longer and look out for signs of life

Give it another couple of weeks and see how it goes. Even in a mild winter, they would only be starting to show signs of life round here, so it isn't necessarily a problem. They can suddenly burst into life   :)
