What will happen with my dryopteris?

The leaves normally die and I cut them back in the spring and new leaves emerge. The old leaves don't look like they're ready to die this year. Will they still produce new fronds?
Not worried, just wondering.

Same here. I cut my leaves on the last day of February every year.

I didn’t this year cos they’re still looking beautiful and verdant.

I’ve had a rummage and there are lots of fronds ready to unfurl so I’m gonna chop all of the leaves off anyway so that I don’t end up with beautiful new ones and half tatty old ones as we move into summer.

I didn’t answer the question directly.

    Yes, new fronds will come.

Sounds like a plan @TheGreenMan. I'll do the same

We leave the old fronds to die back and do not cut them back in the spring. New fronds grow and we have fabulous new ferns yet again.

They'll just keep growing, and growing more new ones.
I've even had a couple of ferns which haven't completely died back this year. Just been so warm here.
Anything that does brown and die off, gets removed, but only if it's in a place I see it and it annoys me.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
