@TheGreenMan Don't know a lot about it but last year I planted Viburnham Coppertop
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Yes, I had hesitated to suggest myrtle due to hardiness, but the free draining site, full sun, some shelter from the wall and the fact that mine shrugged off -7 when still very young and quite newly planted persuaded me it might be worth a go. @TheGreenMan will hopefully be able to make the call.

    I see there's a variegated option too.

You had any issues with leaf spot? @Plantminded

I've been growing Griselinia for over 8 years and never seen any leaf spot (or been aware that it might occur!)  I also have a variegated plant which suits a shady spot by brightening it up, but it is slower growing.

    Thanks, as always, everyone.

    I've gone for @Plantminded's suggestion.

If we get on well then I may consider it for the dividing wall between us and next door....

I'm probably too late now but I've had another think and come up with Euonymus, there are various variegated ones that could suite.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

It will make a great screen too @TheGreenMan - here's the one I planted alongside my patio to fox the nosy next door neighbour!

@TheGreenMan, have a look at Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Aureomarginatus.
Evergreen, slow growing, holly like leaves, really pretty light green/cream/pinky-red tinged leaves in the spring. Easily pruned to whatever size you need.

Mine is only about 3 to 4 ft high and wide after 10 years.

That looks good too. I shall pop it in my book 👍🏼

    Thank you.
