Black Cherry and Chocolate Cherry are also good croppers.  Slightly larger than Sungold and a little later to crop.
Everyone's taste is different tho so it is a bit difficult to say categorically "Try this variety - I love it and so will you ".
A lot of flavour will be lost if any tomato is either watered or fed too much.  The newer varieties being produced all have to meet the "sweetness" test it seems.  Forget the added acidic tang which makes all the difference.
Most SM toms have little or no flavour, sweet or otherwise. If it is red and round and the label says Tomato, that seems to be sufficient. Production methods over the years have a lot to answer for.

I agree - too much food and water isn't beneficial. Mine probably get fed twice.
    Treat 'em mean.

Another vote for Maskotka. I grew it in a pot on our south facing terrace but did need to prop the various branches up off the paving as they became heavy. Couldn't find that particular seed last year though and haven't so far this year.

SM cherry tomatoes bought 'on the vine' taste much better but are more expensive.

I bought a pack of Maskotka seeds a couple of weeks ago (following a recommendation from another thread on this forum) from Mr Fothergills.

I'm going to try them this year after seeing so many recommendations. Just ordered mine from Premier Seeds - 20 seeds + postage only £1.88 - very reasonable! Thanks for the recommendation @Zenjeff :)
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • I grow Tumbler Toms every year. Lots of medium tomatoes.

Another vote for Maskotka.  I’ve grown them for two years now and going to do so again this year.  Hopefully they will be successful again.
