I use old teabags in the bottom of pots!

I noticed that some composts produce a dark fluid after watering but it seems to become less dark as time goes on. If it’s fresh compost, maybe it’s worth giving the pots a good soak a few times off the paving. The cloth idea makes sense.

I think the stain or sediments washed out is nutrients in the compost, probably from decaying organic matter; not much you can do to stop that.  J-cloths, wipes etc will have no effect and will be plastics ending up in the watercourse eventually so I don't think it's a good idea to use those.
