When /if/how to prune

Ive been gardening for the first time this year and it was like meeting an old friend
Question..... I have two shrubs that say Coro something...label faded, One has been flowering all winter through and still is. Bright yellow and looks to me like a pea. The other hasnt flowered, probably because I 'tidied it up' last Autumn.
Any idea when the large one should be pruned and by how much? I dont want to kill them and the flowers are so pretty in the winter but the flowering one is getting 'leggy'. They are both growing near Rose bushes.
