New rhubarb - what's happened? :(

Not a disaster I know, well not yet anyway.

Wondering if something has been trying to eat it?

It could be that our dog has trodden on it, but I can't really see how.

Thanks for any help. It was doing so well too.

That occasionally happens  here ... it seems to be when a fat woodpigeon underestimates it's own weight and tries to perch on it.  Not very bright, woodies 😂

Fox or badger possibly having a rootle around.
I can see a few paw-sized marks on the compost

Thank you. If it's an accident by a nocturnal visitor, then welcome, but I'll not be happy if it's slug damage.

Seeing that it's a first year crown, wondering if I should remove the stalk or leave it alone? Don't want disease setting in, and it would be nice to have a little bonus taster in a very small apple and rhubarb crumble. If the stalk's still able to support the young plant, then I'll leave it be.

It doesn't look like slug damage to me.

I'd remove it and use it ... pulling and twisting carefully from the base, so that it doesn't leave a stump that can rot.  Enjoy!

Rhubarb crumble and custard here today.

Thanks @Dovefromabove, I've never grown rhubarb before. It'll be a first for the new garden.
