It really depends on the look you want, and whether you want it to be the star attraction, or just something evergreen to have as a foil for other plants and bulbs etc.
I love my Osmanthus, but it's not a 'stand out' shrub - it's more of a background specimen. I have one of my 'bird cage' feeders inside it   :)
Some Pittosporums are very smart, and have a nice natural 'cone' shape, but some are hardier than others too, so it's a question of getting a suitable one for your conditions.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I would plant a Nandina domestica, common nandina that grows tall and narrow and has red berries. It is a shrub that looks good in all seasons my garden.

I have to say, l love Nandinas (having just bought 4 more 😊), but l'm not sure if one would be too big for that spot in terms of height.
I'm just trying to find the best spot for a more dwarf one called "Moon Bay" which according to the label has a 1 metre height and spread. Mine came from a local garden centre.

@Astraeus Probably a bit late in the day now but managed to get a pic of rhubarb and custard.

It doesn't do it a lot of justice and it was very windy but will give you some idea.  :)
(Grass is still too wet to cut!)

It isn't too late at all @Fran IOM, thank you for that. It looks fantastic!

We're off to the GC this weekend to pick up something but it'll be a hebe and R&C is in our top three!
