Lawn Care

Should you top dress every time after hollow tine aerating? Thinking of doing mine at some point for the first time. I've moved into a new build last year and the lawn quality isn't great, its also on clay.

I often don't bother topdressing, but I use a fork rather than a hollow tine aerator. Too many little pebbles in the soil - they get stuck in the hollow tines. When I do topdress, it's usually as a place to get rid of old spent compost from containers and hanging baskets. My soil is sandy so I don't think it needs any more sand added. Your clay might benefit more.
