Could you not take out a corner of the grass @Crazybeelady?
Well worth it - even if it's small. More benefit to wildlife than the grass   ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • It needs to be in a sunny spot ideally doesn't it? I don't know, I'll keep trying to work it out! I've got a gloomy corner, though there's a clematis Montana there so I bet I'd be fighting a lot of roots if I started digging!

I can confirm that Newts will eat frog/toad spawn as I have watched them doing exactly that.

None yet here in Buckinghamshire. My pond is very tiny but had 2 frogs last year so still hoping .
  • No spawn yet in my pond here in Cornwall. however. last year I did not see any spawn but suddenly the water was thick with tadpoles. I have no idea where the spawn had been laid so possibly the same thing will happen this year. I have sundry containers around the garden with water in, one in particular seems to be home to a frog. I have newts in the pond and I know they eat the eggs etc. but a few always seem to escape and survive. I often come across frogs and toads of varying sizes when I am gardening so they obviously find somewhere to procreate.
  • I am looking every day, but no movement or frogs yet. Valerie
