This is a garden centre hospital table find- however I can’t find any information about it online (height, spread, etc)- does anyone else have this variety?
According to the RHS listing, the name status is "unresolved" but one of the listed suppliers stocks it. May be worth contacting them: Sambucus nigra 'Beaujolais' - Larch Cottage Nurseries (There's no description on their website!)
Are you sure it's that one @earlydaze? Is there a way you can find out where the plant came from? All elders can be pruned and managed to keep them smaller if you're concerned about eventual size. It's pretty unlikely that this one would be any different in terms of care
Definitely worth contacting Larch Cottage anyway.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
am sure is that one as I have the tag that came on the pot- suppose I am just being overly efficient as am trying to keep a spreadsheet of all my new plants! I will keep it in a pot for a while until I get the hang of it- is my first elder and would rather it is a shrub than a tree It really is just one growing branch and am worried about taking off the growing tip. I will post a photo when it stops raining and can get outside- thanks
Virtually every elder can be kept as a shrub with some pruning. Many other shrubs don't do so well with that regime as you lose flowers and/or fruit, but elders are much easier. They can be left to grow to full size, or kept smaller without any problem.
Just let it get a good root system in the pot and then plant it out where you want it to go. Bear in mind that, like most shrubs, they'll take a while to reach maturity. Different from perennials.

@earlydaze, I've found another variety called Cherry Lace/Hyfjolais - the "jolais" may suggest a similarity?! According to the description, it's a small shrub growing to 1.5m. As @Fairygirl says, Sambucus varieties can easily be kept to shrub like proportions - pruning to achieve a multi-stemmed format when the plant gets established and older would make an attractive plant. Here's a link to the other variety: SAMBUCUS nigra ´Cherry Lace´ (´HYFJOLAIS´)Ⓢ | Decidous trees and Shrubs | Assortment/Shop | Kordes Jungpflanzen (koju.de) A photo when the leaves and flowers emerge will be key to final detection!
