Hosta - I think i killed them

SonnieBSonnieB Posts: 124
Hi All

I had 3 hotas, not sure of the variety which I bought in 2020.  Once winter came I'm pretty sure I cut them back (I could be wrong) and they emerged in early 2021 and grew lovely through the year.  So last winter I again cut them back and today they look like this

Is it likely that they will grow back, im sure I saw some growth by now last year .   Is @Hostafan1 still around.

Many thanks

You could remove all the moss and weeds, but otherwise, no they look like most people's do just now  :)

It's still early for hostas to be poking through yet so I wouldn't worry about it, none of mine are. Actually, I tell a lie, there's one leaf coming through on one but I'm expecting it to be taken by the next frost.

OK, i feel much better.  Yeah the pots  need a tidy up.  Should I put some fresh compost in, to protect them a bit

No need to protect them, but it would look better with a thin layer  :)

you can gently poke your finger tip around and you should feel the tips of " bullets " about to emerge.

Thank you all.  I love my hostas and I especially love plants that I don't have to replace each year.  @Hostafan1 I'll have a good poke around tomorrow 😁

go nice and gently, you don't want to damage them

  • @SonnieB If you damage them below the soil the leaves will grow distorted.
