Ditch side plant ID

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone can ID this plant as growing in our horse paddock next to a recently dredged ditch.

  • @scobec16 I have no idea to be honest .Are these leaves growing out of an old tree stump maybe. Wouldn't suggest you handle it but is it shrubby and woody or are these stems soft and coming straight out of the ground. One last though are you aware of any flowers?

  • They are all along the bank of the ditch. No flowers, yet, but can post an update when they arrive as appreciate it is hard to know at the moment.
  • Some type of Hogweed?

It does look like the native Hogweed to me too.
  • @Palustris Thanks.  Not to touch is good advice.

Could it be Althea officinalis / marsh mallow?

  • @Loxley
That could be a good contender
  • Common Hogweed isn’t dangerous … I used to pick armfuls of it for our pet rabbits and the goats.
It’s totally different to the Giant Hogweed which is dangerous.

Does the stem have a groove along it?
