Yukka in a bad bad way!

Hi, can anyone let me know if this Yukka is salvageable?? Leaves started falling off over time and now none left! Thanks

  • Bit difficult to see from your pic but several causes spring to mind.  Pot size, drainage, compost. siting, over watering.
Are those pointy bits at the top of the stems new growth appearing ?  Again, difficult to tell from the pic.
I'd suggest the first thing would be to decant it and check the rootball.
You can cut back each stem bit by bit to see whether any are alive.  If you get as far as the base but the root system still appears to be alive, there may be a chance you can save it.
  • Hi, yea there was a hint of re growth which started then failed to amount to anything. When you say cut back, do you mean cut back the whole thick trunk bit by bit??  Can you suggest a good type of soil to repot it in ( assuming still alive) thank you
  • The suggestion of cutting back the trunks bit by bit was so that you could check at what stage it was possibly showing signs of life. Or not !!
The growing medium would normally be a mix of MPC and  JI 2 or 3 and some extra grit.  They do generally prefer a well draining mixture but again, you need to check your pot size and suitability.  They are quite hard to kill and prefer under watering rather than over watering.
Don't know where or when you bought it but looking closer, the 2 smaller trunks have been cut back at some point ( they show the usual waxed cap ) so I assume the grower/retailer had done that in order to promote new growth and make it more attractive to buyers..  It's a ploy often used by GC's.
Don't know whether any of this helps but good luck anyway :)
