  @Fran IOM Think they must be short lived if you get 2 years out of them I think you have done well .After that they start to get woody and often give up.

  I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

  Thanks everyone. I can see some small signs of new growth so will see how it goes. They're stunning so really don't want to lose them.
