Foxgloves

Hi,

I have an area where I’d love to plant some foxgloves (D. purpurea) but it receives sun most of the day (10am to about 5/6pm at mid summer) - is this too much for it?

Many thanks.

If they're planted in complete isolation, it probably wouldn't be great. If they're among other planting, that would be different.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • As long as they don't dry out they'll be fine. Mine self seed all over but the biggest and best are usually in a sunny spot. :)

I had a huge bed of self seeded ones on the lane up to our previous house. Dry and rocky soil, if it could be called that, full sun and only watered when it rained. They came back year after year.

  • Thanks everyone, hopefully they’ll be ok! The foxgloves would have some ‘protection’ from a Cirsium rivulare ‘atropurpureum’ once that starts shooting up again.

Good point folks re the 'not drying out'. I suppose I don't notice them much because they thrive without any input up here.
I don't tend to encourage them into the garden, because they can cross with the more desirable ones too.  :)
