Thank you @chicky. A lot of my planting was inspired by the time I spent in Barbados as a child. I tried to find hardy equivalents of the plants we use to have in our garden - you may have recognized this after your recent trip to the island! Hope you enjoyed Barbados too!
We loved Barbados @Plantminded - particularly the plants. I had not expected it to be quite so green everywhere. I can see why it inspired your garden design 😍
I'd be careful about adding trellis at the bottom of the garden if you are planning to put fencing on the left and right. Too much wood! Unless you plant evergreen climbers, the trellis will be bare in winter and will not hide the garage or the view of other houses at a time when the garden is in a state of decline and dormancy. Evergreens, as a hedge or individual shrubs, will provide a natural, green backdrop all year. Many require little more than an annual prune or trim.
Have you thought about how you would be able to move equipment such as a wheelbarrow or lawn mower around the garden if you have steep steps. Also, would you need safety gates for a few years if you have small children?
My east facing garden slopes up instead of down. I feel like I’m always carrying something heavy up steps. On the south facing boundary I’ve just started cordon apples from bareroot and hardy kiwi. I put my bird feeders and small pond the area with worst soil and heaviest shade.
