Reliable long flower season perennials for clay soil

  • More at ground level but Campanula Dixon's Gold is good.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Persicaria will like the boggy bit, i had persicaria superba which was lovely. Pulmonaria, wood anemones, camissia (though might be wrong time of year) shasta daisy, phlox, campanula, and aster all grew very well on my clay soil with compost mixed in

    Maybe some perennial helianthus, phlox, geum, achillea, coreopsis, rudbeckia, veronicastrum for full sun.

    Alliums do well here as do most bulbs.

    If you have bits that stay reliably moist in summer, Ligularias will be very happy, but they're mostly quite big, so they may not be any use if the wetter bits are front of border, rather than back or middle. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Thanks @Fairygirl and @Songbird-1, I'm trying to help them do it on a budget from as many divisions etc I can and don't want them wasting funds on plants they love that won't be happy in the conditions
  • Daylilies, Verbena bonariensis and a few Osteospermums eg Lady Leitrim (most varieties are not fully hardy).
