What plant is this

Hello,
This is suddenly growing along the edge of my fence
would love to know what it is please

    It's the purple dead nettle @johncleme65.
    It's a wildflower and there's a white dead nettle too.

    I bought the white variety in autumn for shady sites in the garden. I didn't have any success with seed from the wild stuff round here unfortunately.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I'm guessing that bees would like it. I think the flowers are edible, I'll just check.
    Yes they are, see this,

    'A bunch of white dead-nettles can look good in a vase, especially after cutting some of the leaves to reveal the flowers. The flowers and young leaves are edible, and can be used in salads or cooked as a vegetable.'

    Lovely plants for bees and moths.  I've just ordered a ferw varieties for my new bed.
