Caryopteris pruning

I've read to cut back Caryopteris 'hard to to permanent framework' in March. Does this mean cutting stems down to 2-4 healthy looking pairs of leaves, regardless of the size of the stem?

Thanks.

My interpretation is you cut back to where you want to keep it structurally, so that doesn't mean treating each stem the same. With mine I cut them back to a nice size and rounded shape, removing any growth I don't need, to open them up a bit.
