Just because the bids went that high doesn't mean the seller will ever see the money. But it would be interesting to see if 8***8 pays up. I hope so. Bids started at 99p.
Monksilver is a specialist UK snowdrop nursery. Lots of nurseries (and various shops) have a shop front on Ebay too - to reach a wider audience.
Phew, that's eye watering. I know someone who will pay a lot of money per bulb but wouldn't go as far as that. I get the impression that collecting becomes an obsession.
I know Joe Sharman from Monksilver. He is a snowdrop specialist and expert and told me he does well on ebay. He will be pleased with this! I bought some snowdrops from him recently - but mine were £10 for a pot of 3. He also grows other perennials so people in my area will know him from plant fairs.
I should think the snowdrop obsessive who bought the bulb will be cossetting it in unicorn hair and watering it with angels' tears. They've probably written a book on snowdrop propagation.
@Papi Jo Ebay hide the full user name of those that bid, and use **** to blackout certain digits, for privacy. The bid history on this bulb sale shows that user 8***8 won the auction yesterday. When auctioning on Ebay you are obliged to pay for what you have won and honour the agreement, but sometimes people pull out or bottle it. A buyer with a long history on Ebay (over 500-1000 purchases) are less likely to bail. Similarly, sellers with over 1000 sales and a 100% satisfaction rating are less likely to mess buyers about.
Extraordinary. I have to admit, I like snowdrops well enough, but really don't understand Galanthophilia at all. None of the expensive fancy snowdrops look better than the common version, to me.

I'd also go for lots of common ones rather than single plants of special ones, but it's a hobby for some, so good luck to them if they have that sort of money to spend.
