Rubber plant

Hi. Can anyone help with my rubber plant that I’ve had for a couple of years. The bottom leaf has turned almost completely yellow. The rest of the leaves appear healthy and it is still putting out new leaves as it grows taller.
The soil doesn’t seem to be too wet or too dry. It is in a pot with drainage holes inside a ceramic pot.

How can I tell if it has become root bound and wants re-potting? Or could it be another issue?

Thanks

Its just getting old. Slice it off with a sharp knife. The rest of the plant looks healthy. Give it a feed once a month.
  • Make sure that it isn't sitting in water in the ceramic pot.

That's quite normal, as the plant ages the lower leaves start to yellow and die off.  After two years in the same pot your plant may be ready for repotting.  Check to see if it is rootbound by lifting the plant out of its inner pot.  You can repot anytime from now on as the plant starts to emerge from dormancy.  Your plant looks very healthy so I don't think you've got your watering regime wrong!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • Thank you for your replies. I get emotionally attached to my plants haha 😝 and didn’t want it to start dying off.

The ceramic pot is big enough to take a larger inner pot so I may try repotting and removing the yellow leaf.

    Thanks 😊

I agree, it's absolutely normal behaviour. It's a tree in its natural habitat and will lose old leaves from time to time. I'd be inclined to leave the yellow leaf to drop off naturally then you won't get the rubber latex seeping out.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I lifted it up to check what size inner pot I could go with and the yellow leaf dropped off! Problem solved on that part 😊
