i should add that mine also has a ‘fake’ fastening in the middle of the strap so if someone were to try to undo it they would target the wrong part of the strap.

That process is nothing new.  Friends of mine were in Bangkok over 40 years ago when the female had the bottom of a handbag cut out when they were on a bus and everything stolen.  Nobody on the bus said a word.  Her partner then realised that the bottom of his camera bag had also been shredded, but because he'd put hardboard in the bottom because of the weight in the bag nothing had been lost.  They spoke to reception when they got back to their hotel and were told it was just as well they hadn't noticed as the thief wouldn't have hesitated to use the knife on them.  That was why nobody on the bus did anything.
Was the wife's name Alison? That story is frighteningly familiar! 😲

@plant pauper I honestly can't remember.  We lost touch many years ago.

@BenCotto I would question your claim that hardly anybody carries cash any more.  It may be true of younger people, but everybody I know of my generation carries some cash, and many prefer to work with cash because it makes controlling spending easier.
Not having cash can lead to problems.  A minor example was our local cafe recently had a problem with card readers and could only accept cash.  Without that option they would have had to close for the day and lose money.  Staff on zero hours contracts in such situations wouldn't get paid either.

Thanks @Lyn. I went to Manage Privacy Settings (after FAQS at the bottom of the page @pansyface) and 'rejected all'. Seems to have worked so far. Fingers crossed because I tried it withs ad for about five minutes and all that moving and wafting made me sea sick!
