@B3 they probably kick tyres cos the tyres can't kick back.  "Simples" in so many ways.

Re seed storage, I used to keep mine in a big plastic box in the shed with smaller plastic boxes and ex ice cream tubs within to separate annuals from perennials and veggies sorted by root, fruit, leaf interest.  Then I found they'd been invaded by some bionic rodents so I sorted the undamaged ones and all subsequent purchases into plastic boxes which I keep on the top shelf of the drinks fridge.

  • I don't drive, so I don't kick tyres!!

If I tried to kick anything, I'd probably lose my balance!! I fall over too often as it is.

Not the right sort of post for a curmudgeon thread but I like driving. I love my car, I would never dream of kicking her tyres. I was left some extra money some years after she died by my lovely Mum. I really enjoyed buying my car, a gleaming red, long and low, racy looking Mégane Estate. First time I've bought a new car. I thank Mum every time I look at it. OH enjoyed buying his 2nd hand but nearly new Skoda Octavia 2 years ago. One thing that he really enjoys is that it was such a good deal that she's now worth more than he paid for her.

I never did get an answer to my why do men kick tyres? Some bounce the corner too. I believe that is to test the suspension.
I was selling a car once and a young lad brought his dad along to help check it over. Neither of them knew a thing about cars though. His dad tried the corner bounce and put a big dent in the wing where he pushed down. I think they bought the car out of guilt after that.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I don't enjoy shopping for cars so I change cars as infrequently as I can. However I mostly drive on my own so I need reliability and don't want to keep them until they drop. I usually change at about 10 or 11 years old. Last time my sister had my old car for the part-exchange value which was £600. After about 6 years she changed it and got £550 part-exchange! My current car was nearly new when I got it (showroom display model with 30 miles on the clock, half of which was us test-driving it, second-hand price, "unusual" colour but at least it's easy to spot in a large car park) so I hope it'll be good for another 5 years or so.

It's that time of year where our car insurance is due. We got a reminder today from LV and was curmudgeoned to discover it's gone up from around £281 to around £381 (fully comp, 2021 Mazda, £500 excess). I understand the 'going rate' for car insurance inflation this year is 7% (ish). Husband phoned LV asking why has it gone up so much as nothing has changed in our circumstances to warrant such a leap. They said they could cut the price to around £350, then after a discussion that we're 'low mileage' (under 5k pa) they cut the price again to £326.

After a call to NFU, they said the best they could do was to charge us £850 pa. Needless to say we quickly got back to LV and accepted the £326.

    It's utter madness out there.....

Glad I’ve only got a Ford Focus,  £134.00 a year,   tax is the worst,  about £260 a year I think, we only use it once,  sometimes twice a month, would be cheaper to get a taxi.
I’ve never sold a car on,  when they fail the MOT badly, I take them to scrappy down the road.  Paying well at the moment.
