Daphne bushes

i feel an irresistible urge to buy daphne plants. Can anyone point me in the right direction. The last one I bought,  eternal fragrance, just died within three months of planting it. Please recommend me a nursery that specialises in these wonderful bushes. Valerie

What caused the previous one to die?
They can be a bit hit and miss depending on your conditions.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Daphne is notoriously short lived and can also suddenly just give up and die for no apparent reason. It is also very poisonous. I am sure that your local GC or nursery will have a choice at this time of year. I do know that D Jacqueline Postill is rather special but not so easy to find. Chances are there will be some new cultivars worth growing.

Burncoose is a very good supplier and they have a wide range.

You can gave a look there, but it's important to check how suitable your site is, because they have varied requirements  :)

  • @Fairygirl, hi, I don’t know. It just looked ill, then looked worse, then it died. I thought it was vine weevil , leaves a bit eaten in places so I dug down when it had given up the ghost but found nothing. The other two varieties have found their feet and are happy. It was a buy three at a discount price. I rather fancy one that has a second name of Postill.
Any idea where the best nursery is for these gorgeous shrubs, Valerie

I've given you a link to Burncoose  :)
I haven't looked to see if they have J. Postil but it's quite common, so should be reasonably easy to find although many nurseries have had low stocks of everything in the last year or two.

I've just looked - they'll have stock later in spring
