Tulip Fire - new bulbs

Completely refreshed my tulip bulbs and soil for pots this year but have noticed some appear to be affected by Tulip Fire.
Has anyone else has this problem so far this year and are there tulips that show better resistance for future reference.
Thank you.

Not something I've ever had. It tends to happen more when bulbs are planted in warmer conditions, but there seems to be some debate around that too. The theory is that warmer conditions means the fungal spores spread more easily.

I only have the species ones, and they aren't really showing yet. I haven't bought any 'ordinary' tulips for a few years.
Are you sure that's what's wrong with them? It's possible they were already affected when you got them, depending on the source etc.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Could you possibly provide a photo so that other tulip growers can confirm whether the symptoms look as you suspect?
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • Thanks for replies. We do live in a mild area and I can't say for certain that it is Tulip Fire so will post some pictures tomorrow and would be pleased to receive opinions.
Had problems for the first time last year after many years of having lovely tulip displays in pots so planted only new tulips in fresh compost.
Bulbs came from a company whose initials are PN so long established.

Peter Nyssen? They're excellent, so that rules out dodgy stock.  :)
You may just have been unlucky. Some photos will help whenever you can manage.

  • @Fairygirl - bulbs from Peter Nyssen.
A couple of pictures to show what's going on.
Have been reading a similar post regarding slug damage which I didn't know was even a consideration.
