Unhealthy Citrus Reticulata

Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me, I have had this Citrus Reticulata for about 18 months now and it is gradually declining in health.  I see two issues:

1) A number of the shoots are gradually dying
2) There are persistent whitish spots on all the leaves

Any thoughts on what the issue could be and how I can remedy it would be much appreciated!

No idea, but my post will bump your query up and someone might be able to help.
If you give more info - where it's kept for example [is it in a shed?] and what the care regime has been, that will also help.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Is it possible that the spots might be scale insects? I was looking especially at those on the stem. Can you scrape them off with a thumbnail or old toothbrush? If you can, then you should be able to get rid of them by wiping them off with some cottonwool dipped in meths, or something like hand sanitiser with alcohol.
  • Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I can scrape them off with a thumb nail.  They don't look like insects though, although via google, it appears that it could be them.

Could the scale insects be harming the growth of the plant?  As it looks pretty sparse!

The plant looks fine to me but if you are keeping it indoors over winter make sure it gets plenty of light and in the coolest part of the house. They drop leaves if it’s too warm.
  • I get them on my Nerium oleander, which is what made me wonder. They don't kill the plants, but they do look less flourishing. They are certainly happier without them !
Once you know that's what they are though, they are easy to keep on top of, but as the babies are so tiny they can easily be missed, so you do need to keep a look out on a regular basis.
Your plant leaves are a good deep green, so as it seems otherwise happy, I wouldn't worry too much, you must be getting most things right :)
