University College London Research

Hello there!

We are UCL students and we are trying to learn a bit more about what kind of problems do people have with their plants health and how they take care of them. It would be great if you could write down the problems you have and how you are trying to solve them. Feel free to describe any type of issue, this will help us gather market insights. Thank you all!

Have you any thoughts yourselves? That might give us a little insight into what you are looking for.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

From last year - lots of us having problems with box blight and now box moth / caterpillar. Several of us decided to remove whole hedges this last autumn rather than rely on lots of chemicals to control the problems.

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

We are trying not to drive the conversation in any specific direction, so whatever comes up to you and is a problem for you would be really helpful!

I have problems with snails eating delphinium shoots. My solution is to swear like a Scottish sailor and throw any snails I find into next door’s garden. Neither method works.

Sailors know eff all about swearing.
As an ex Scots Guard, maybe you need to learn some proper infantry swearing?

how does moaning about slug damage, or box blight "  help us gather market insights." ?
    Devon.
  • No good throwing your snails next door @BenCotto - they will return  eventually. Years ago, I numbered quite a few of my garden snails and popped them over into 3 neighbouring gardens.  Some took just days to re appear and some took weeks. Not exactly scientific based research I'll agree but it seems that your snails are yours whether you like it or not  :D
To be slightly more serious, I think @B3 has a point.  Far too wide an issue to expect gardeners to respond to with any really useful comments :)
