Hi everyone I was wondering if I should let the sucker or remove it I’m new to citrus. Both of my lemon tree are doing this. Here’s a photo. I don’t know why it’s on the side like that sorry.Ā

  • Could just be my eyesight but I can only see 2 young plants growing and looking quite healthy so you are obviously taking good care of them.
Unless you mean the 2nd one has "branched" part way up ?Ā  Nothing abnormal about that.Ā  Citrus are trees when all is said and done and that is what they do :)

Thanks but can you see the first tree in the front the main stem and there’s a leaf and in between there’s a huge stem growing.Ā

That’s a branch … that’s how trees grow … otherwise what you have is just a stem or trunk with leaves on. Ā More shoots are growing from the axils of other leaves. Yours going to have a fine bushy plant with lots of branches.

If these are grown from seed, there will not be suckers. Suckers come from the rootstock of grafted plants and they don't look like they have a graft point.

Yes these are grown from seeds. Thank you I didn’t know thatĀ
  • @fidgetbones  😊 I think the OP is referring to the shoots growing from the leaf axils as ā€˜suckers’ … it seems to be the term used in the US for sideshoots on tomato plants, and she is in Canada.Ā

Exactly what is the term in the UK to describe that ?

In the UK we simply call them ā€˜sideshoots’.Ā

I’ve seen/heard them referred to as suckers on US videos about tomato growing.Ā

To us in the UK ā€˜suckers’ are shoots growing from the rootstock on a grafted plant.Ā
