Growing Ginger in containers

Can anyone please advise what pot size ginger should be grown in. There are a few videos around with some saying shallow pot and others at least 12in deep. I am a bit confused. Thank you for your advice.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
A layer of damp sharp sand (not builders sand) at the bottom then lay a bit of root on top then cover so the root has about 1/2" of damp sand on top of it.
If you have no sharp sand, I'm sure multi-purpose compost would do. It only needs to be slightly damp.
I can't remember how long it took to see a shoot, I think it was at least a month or so.
Once it has sprouted and grown roots, then pot it up in multi-purpose compost in a small pot that fits the root.
Pot it up as needed.
