Crataegus laevigata 'Paul's Scarlet'
in Plants
Hi, I would like to buy a decent size tree and like the look and sound of the Crataegus laevigata 'Paul's Scarlet'. This particular tree has the RHS Award of Garden Merit. However, the local nursery to me has the right size tree but appears to be a variation of the above tree, namely, Crataegus media 'Paul's Scarlet'. Apparently this a cross breed. Does anybody know the difference as this variation does not have the RHS Award of Garden Merit?
Kind regards
Louise

Hmm!
It would not be called Pauls Scarlet if it was a different tree...it would need to be given a new name.
The site below call it ......Crataegus x media Paul's Scarlet but if you read to the bottom it says synonymous with Crataegus Laevigata Paul's Scarlet.

It makes a very handsome tree.
It is a hawthorn with double red flowers.

If you get a tree it will probably be grafted at the top.
I recommend you buy a tree. (rather than a shrub)
