Probably Vib. Eve Price - it flowers at this sort of time of year.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Definitely Viburnum tinus.

Agree - vibernum tinus - could be "Eve Price."

The OP specified "lovely smelling shrub". Some fellow forum members suggested V. tinus 'Eve Price'. This shrub definitely looks like a V. tinus, but I'm not so sure about the suggested cultivar. I purchased and planted 'Eve Price' last year and it is now in full bloom of pinkish flowers but... no scent whatsoever. I am yet to meet with a sweet-smelling V. tinus (contrary to other Viburnums which are very scented).
Can any owner of 'Eve Price' confirm that it smells nice?

  • I think the id is correct but I've also never noticed any fragrance from one.

@thevictorian Maybe the lovely smell that the OP noticed came from another shrub in the vicinity of that Virburnum (another Viburnum or a Sarcococca?).

I can't smell any of them, or most other scented plants, so it's always hard for me to judge  ;)

    Probably some Sarcoccocca nearby ;P
