Yellow leaves on Mimosa

Hello. I'm posting on behalf of my elderly mother in law. She has a mimosa in a pot and the leaves are turning yellow. It has been well cared for but she cannot figure out what is causing this. Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you :)

Could be a number of reasons. Grown in a pot, it may suffer from lack of watering to inconsistent watering. Even though a bit tender when young, they should be grown outside with protection of a southerly wall or in a greenhouse.

They need to be in neutral to acidic soil. Ensure the holes are not blocked and raise off the ground with some pot feet. Soils in pots need grit to aid drainage in case of over watering.

It's probably pot bound and hungry.  I have inherited two of these and they are huge trees so I think that one needs a bigger pot, some fresh, ericaceous John Innes no 3 compost and regular watering plus a top up of fertiliser ever spring and that needs to be a slow release feed for roses or tomatoes if you want it to flower.

This is one before we lifted the crown so we could walk past and also mow the grass without being mugged.

Yellowing foliage can also mean it's chlorotic so make sure it is watered with rain water if the tap water is hard and that it gets a dose of Epsom salts, 15ml dissolved in 5 litres - used as a foliar spray before being watered into the pot.  This will help boost magnesium levels which are essential for plant health.  A liquid feed containing sequestered or chelated iron will also help.
