Plants for a north west facing garden

Hello.  I have just moved to a new house and my back garden is north-west facing.  There is a border down one side and I am leaving it to see what comes up.  I seem to remember crocosmia in there (when I went to view).  I want to make a border down the other side and also get some pots going - any suggestions?

Several questions  @lindatrafford106 - roughly where are you located, as that has a bearing on suggestions.  :)
What aspect is the border you need help with ? One side will be sunnier than the other, and other buildings , trees etc will also have an effect  :)
Is it annuals you want in pots, or something else? Veg, herbs, bulbs etc.
What colours or styles of planting do you like? Do you want shelter from wind - or neighbours?  ;)
How much time have you got for maintenance - do you need easier shrubs/trees rather than lots of perennials etc?

If you can upload a few photos, that will also help. The icon that looks like hills above the posting box is the one to use. If you can keep the pix around 1MB or smaller, they load better  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
