Move crocus in bloom?

JoeXJoeX Posts: 1,783
I’ve got some scattered crocus still blooming after a few years in the ground, I’d like to bring them together into a single spot, most likely a pot.

Can they handle it?

Might be best to move them after they've flowered, but you can still see the leaves.

I've dug mine up by accident multiple times, just popped them back in the ground and covered over, they've always been fine.

Yes they should be good. I’ve moved crocuses from the ground into pots, and also from pots into the ground, when as @Mr. Vine Eye says the flowers are done and the leaves are still there.

Well I know you can move almost anything *after* blooms are finished, it’s while they are in flower specifically that I’m asking.

If you move them now, be careful not to disturb the roots by taking as much soil as you can.  If they start to fade more quickly, that's the risk you take. They'll be fine next year.  Birds like to peck crocuses, so you may find them easier to protect in a pot.  Personally, I'd follow the advice above and move them when they have finished flowering (they don't last long).
