Access for swallows in garage.

    Are swallows happy to nest under eaves like housemartins?  In all my years on the farm we had housemartins under the eaves, but swallows always nested in the barns ... they seemed to want a much bigger overhang.  

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Yes, it would depend if the over hang were deep enough. I saw cups used under a porch used at Sissinghurst.

    I have seen the nest boxes that look a bit like those wall uprighters you could paint to match your walls but wasn't sure how successful they were. 
    We have discussed whether a box type thing on legs in the garden would work?

    Swallows like a particular nesting situation - quite specific.

    The RSPB say that swallows can and will enter through fairly small holes, so that might be worth trying for your current nest sites.

    I'm not sure there is an easy way of letting a swallow in but not a rat, but restrictions might but them off a bit.
